Where can I go out?
Christchurch Events Village
With the central city out of action at the moment, the Christchurch City Council has set up a temporary Events Village at North Hagley Park. The Village is a fenced off area with paths leading to the multiple temporary venues including two large Dome’s which can hold up to 400 people each.
The CCC Dome was the first part of the Christchurch Events Village to be set up and was used for TV2 KidsFest in July. There are details to come about the entertainment on offer at the Village during NZ Cup and Show Week – so watch this space.
Christchurch Casino
All the gaming, fine dining and socialising will be on offer again at Christchurch Casino this Cup Week. If you’re over twenty, make sure to head along with friends and enjoy a fun night out. Visit www.christchurchcasino.co.nz for more details.
Suburbs
Christchurch is a fun and safe place to go out in the evenings, so it’s unfortunate a number of bars, restaurants and clubs have been forced to close following the recent earthquakes. However, there are still a lot of great places to go out in several spots around town. Keep an eye on this page for a list of all the party places currently open to entertain you and your friends.
Where do I shop?
For those Fashionistas struggling to find a good place to find some heels or pick up a fantastic fascinator – keep an eye on this webpage for all your retail options.
Central
Thanks to the good people involved in ‘Restart 29 October’, parts of Christchurch's central business district will open again just in time for NZ Cup and Show Week.
Cashel Mall will be the first part of the city centre to open as a gateway to the rest of the currently zoned off CBD. Re-locatable expo-style structures will be used by retailers and hospitality owners who are not able to re-open in their existing buildings.
Organiser aim to have retail and hospitality spaces open from Friday 29 October in the area bound by Oxford Tce, Hereford St, Colombo St and Lichfield St.
Suburbs
A list of retail stores in and around Christchurch that are still open will be coming to this webpage shortly.
How do I get around?
Cantabrians have been well and truly introduced to heavy traffic since the earthquakes in February – something that was never an issue before.
So how will this affect getting to and from the events during NZ Cup and Show Week? What if there are roadworks and delays? Will parking be a problem? And will bus and taxi services still be operating as before?
This webpage will be updated to keep you in the know on transporting issues around Christchurch to ensure your days during Cup Week are as seamless and stress-free as possible.
A big part of any fun day out is the getting to and from. So from visitors coming from outside Canterbury to those in the eastern suburbs – keep an eye out here for the info you need to get that part right.
